The college has a counselling service to help any student who would like to talk to someone in-confidence.

The service is free, and appointments are made to fit in with class commitments (when possible).

What is counselling?

Counselling is a space in which you can talk about your thoughts and feelings to someone who won’t judge you or tell you what to do.
The counsellor is there to listen and support you in finding and making your own decisions and to help you discover different ways of looking at things and coping with your life.

What happens during counselling?

Your first session is usually a chance for you to share your problems in a safe, confidential space.  This session will help you to decide whether counselling is something that you want.  If you feel that it could help then further sessions will be offered to you

Counselling sessions are usually 45 to 50 minutes and are held in a private room. During the session you will be encouraged to talk about yourself.  Counselling is like having a conversation — It’s a two-way process  between you and the counsellor. You don’t have to tell us everything about you and your life, but being open when you feel ready will help you to explore your problems.

Everything you choose to share with the counsellor is strictly confidential.  They would only break confidentiality if they strongly feel that you or someone else’s safety is at risk.
